Meet Our People

Our long standing company was formed in 1958 with a change of name in 1998. We hold a host of technicians, management and craftspeople working on restoration and conservation of the most prestigious historic buildings, structures and monuments in the South of England.

Management Team

Grant Turner

Founder and Managing Director

Grant Turner

Joined family business straight from school, and gained experience as banker mason; CAD; contracts management and company oversight. Involved with prestigious projects such as 10 Downing Street; Houses of Parliament and the Broadgate Estate.

In 1998, along with Co director Charlie Gilbert, we set up Stone Restoration Services, since when under Grants guidance the company has expanded 4-fold.

Charles Gilbert

Founder and Estimating Director

Charles Gilbert

Charles started work as an apprentice stonemason in his fathers business after school. His masonry fixing skills were honed on historic buildings such as Lambeth Palace and Hampton Court. Charles then moved into the drawing and setting department, and thereafter into estimating.

Since co-founding the company with Grant, Charles now compiles tenders, specifications and schedules, and manages contracts with clients.

Keith Waddingham

Technical Director

Keith Waddingham

Keith started as a draughtsman in the school holidays at T.Crowther and Son in Fulham. He assisted in preparation of water coloured perspective drawings (via drawing board), of period panelling, fireplaces/bookcases and the like for client approval prior to working drawings being undertaken.
In 1989, Keith left and became a masonry draughtsman at Gilbert and Turnbull. After a turbulent time in the 90’s, Gilbert ceased trading and he joined Grant, Charles and Colin, and “Stone Restoration Services” was formed.

(or those willing to appear in a photo anyway)

We are proud that after trading since 1998, we remain financially buoyant with continued reinvestment into the Company .

Our qualified workforce remain loyal and is ever growing with our core team having been on our journey with us for many years, remaining dedicated to our clients and their craft.

We are committed to the wellbeing of our employees and the promotion of our specialist craft.  Our dignity at work policy is endorsed throughout our Company.

Many of our operatives have joined us from many backgrounds with no masonry skills. We train and develop apprentices per year who have joined us and work closely with the Construction Youth Trust, Building People, Livery Schools Link, Inspiring the Future, London Construction Academy and bounce back.

We are passionate about the ongoing training and development in our specialist craft to ensure masonry continues for many years to come.  Our Exec Officer is a Councillor for City and Guilds, Chair of the Stone Industry Training Group (NSITG) and the Worshipful Company of Masons Craft & Training group.  We also Chaired the group for the recently implemented Trailblazer apprenticeship and have links with all colleges and monitor the progress of the trainee masons.

Our teams are encouraged to develop new ideas and are recognised for suggestion and implementation, this is achieved via regular employee consultations together with awards and ceremonies on a social level.
